Jay Millar Memories of the Phonograph   Elvis and our console stereo - by Jay Millar 2023 "Elvis Presley is dead!" It was August 16, 1977 and I heard the news just before stepping outside my childhood home in Arvada, Colorado to wait for my ride to go to my youth basketball camp. When I was young, my mom was a huge fan and we listened to Elvis records on our console stereo all the time, sometimes on our eight-track player too. That was the happiest I remember seeing my mother as she put a stack of records on the console stereo record player and danced around the living room.
