"The Death of Nancy"

A Poem by Howard Taylor Middleton, 1910

Doug Boilesen, June 2024

Howard Taylor Middleton was a writer and illustrator for the monthly trade magazine The Talking Machine World which was published from 1905 - 1928. Anyone who has loved an animal knows the feeling of loss when there is what always seems a too-soon departure.

The poem by Middleton about the death of his horse and included in the January 1910 issue was not something unemotionally inserted. One can smile at the Nipper pose of his horse but Nancy was clearly a companion that brought joy to HTM.

Nancy, like Mr. Middleton, was also obviously an admirer of the Phonograph.
